Celebrity Engagement Rings

Celebrities, especially those from the film industry, tend to marry more than once. That may not be news to you. Anyhow, do you know that most people from showbiz give their future brides bigger rocks as compared to what their former wives had? Check any list of celebrity engagement rings, and you may find that the carat sizes of their fiancées’ ring gemstones get bigger with their next marriages.

There are some possible reasons for that. You could argue that those celebs wanted to make a statement through their second or third fiancées’ rings. Or, it could be that they got more famous, wealthier and more capable of purchasing pricier products. In any case, it may not be accidental. Here is a list of some celebs who gave rings set with bigger stones to their subsequent fiancées.

Alec Baldwin

Actor Alec Baldwin first met with actress Kim Basinger when they were working for the 1991 film ‘The Marrying Man’. Then, he got married after giving Basinger a ring with a 3.7-carat diamond. She auctioned that ring through Christie’s auction house in 2002, after her divorce from Baldwin.

The second wife of Alec, Hilaria won the battle of bling as she got a 5-carat diamond ring. The more interesting part about it is that it would cost twice as compared to Basinger’s piece of jewelry.

Tom Cruise

Top Gun star Tom Cruise gave his second fiancée, Nicole Kidman, what appeared to be a 2-carat cushion cut diamond ring way back in 1990. However, his third fiancée Katie Holmes received a bigger diamond ring from him with a more ostentatious setting. After all, Cruise was madly in love with Holmes, as you could see from Oprah Winfrey’s show where he jumped onto the couch and expressed it.

Ryan Reynolds

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds proposed marriage to actress Scarlett Johansson back in 2008, with a 3-carat solitaire diamond mounted on yellow gold.

Anyhow, Reynolds visited the jewelry store once more, for actor Blake Lively this time around. Reynolds’ career flourished after his marriage to Johansson, which allowed him to give Lively a 12-carat pink diamond ring. It is among the priciest celebrity diamond engagement rings of the last 20 years.

Guy Ritchie

Filmmaker Guy Ritchie popped the question to singer Madonna before he shot to fame with the 1998 crime thriller Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. So, understandably, he only had around £50,000 to spend on a ring with three diamonds that weighed around 5 carats.

Twelve years later, he proposed Jacqui Ainsley with a 5-carat solitaire ring. A ring with a solitaire diamond would cost more than the piece with three stones, even though both have similar carat weights.
